I saw them vaccinating for F&M, they said it was all routine but the estancias are so very vast there is no chance of rounding up absolutley every cow so a few get missed. The beef was the niceset I've every experienced, I ate bee...

OK you are quite right, it was washing soda! I could have waited all day and night taking the temperature, what an idiot  The funny thing is I do actually understand chemisty and if an exothermic reaction hasn't happened after 3 hours you would have thought the penny may have dropped! Well you've lost me already! I followed the recipe on the website here, it says add the caustic to the water and wait til it gets to 50-55C, could be an hour or more. Since it was cold when I mixed it I was waiting for it to heat up- but I really am missing something here I'm sure! Happy to try any ...

Do you need to sterilise demijohns if you are making slow gin, or just clean them and let the gin do the job? I didn't sterilise anythign last year and it all seemed OK ..... One omore thing, does it really matter what I use as a stopper as the demijohns I have don't have corks- bit of greaseproof w...

Help something went wrong making soap...

I had a go at the soap recipe on this website yesterday. I was really looking forward to it but it just didn't go to plan. I put the Sodium Hydroxide into the spring water and measured the temperature every 10 mins... for 3 hours and still never got about 27C (room temperature yesterday, very hot in...

I have just tried soapnuts- at least the four the dog didn't eat before I got to the post. They seemed just the same as any other washing powder BUT, I don't get truely muddy often, and if I do it has never seemed to matter what clever power I use it doesn't come out. I tried using half powder and l...

I planted 5 raspberries a few years ago and they are an absolute jungle now despite being chopped back every year. I don't remember the variety but they produce from June until the frost (well into October for my garden) and I just sit and eat them constantly every evening they are so lovely. Thjey ...
