Re: shaving oil

what did i do wrong then? I used jojoba oil on my legs - used a new razor and had an amazingly smooth pair of pins; it was great. But oh my; within half an hour my legs were on FIRE :angryfire: It was agony for about two days and covered in tiny red spots - my first experience of razor burn i guess?...

Re: Banish Plastic

we're producing less than 100gms of rubbish per week now - all of that is non recyclable plastic or mixed materials such as crisp packets. We use containers in the deli and butcher, use reusable shopping bags, I HAVE left wrapping in the store, but I don't always feel courageous enough for this! I m...

Re: Grow your own drugs - BBC 2

I thought it was great in that it hit the mainstream. I too got tired of the 'don't sue me' feeling about it, but I understand why the BBC felt the need to do this. And I totted up that the face mask probably cost £2; which is hardly frugal AND it took ages to whip up - I can't see many teenagers bo...

Re: what are you sowing?

Wow - you guys are amazing; I'm so inspired. I'm only just digging out last years weeds from my clay soil and I'm really nervous of putting anything in there yet. It's so heavy and wet out there. Maybe I'll start some pots on the dining table. DH kicked a football into the greenhouse last summer :ro...

Re: Food dehydrator help.

I'd never thought to 'hard dry' them to add to stews - what a fab idea! Do you use any particular type of tomato? We grow gardeners delight because hubby eats a high raw diet in the summer and these are the ones he likes. Would it be better to grow some larger ones for drying? Are plum tomatoes bett...

Re: sunshine!

It was amazing here yesterday. I was outdoors all day digging the garden with just a t-shirt on my top half - it was so warm! The first daffodils came out in the garden and I saw a robin flying about taking nesting material into our ivy. It felt very spring like - and I agree with the motivation. To...

Re: Food dehydrator help.

I bought a cheapie too, from an online store and it's one of my most-used kitchen gadgets. We eat a lot of dried fruit and it's so expensive to buy if you want the healthiest options. I reckon even an expensive dehydrator would pay for itself in no time. This year I want to try 'sun' dried tomatoes ...

Re: Much cheapness needed...

One of our favourites is chickpea and tomato soup. Simply puree a tin of each together whilst gently frying a clove of garlic. Add 3/4 pint stock to the tomato / chickpea mix Pour into the garlic and heat through for 5 minutes - you can add a handful of small pasta if you like. I like this because i...

Re: I fancy going on a rubbish reduction year

That's great flo - I've just been looking at your website; it's really good! I think it is so important to do things one step at a time. This avoids overwhelm and ensures more LONG TERM success; which is the key. Six months on, I'm still finding things in the cupboards bought 'pre awareness' of this...

Re: Cheap recipes

soup has to be the ultimate - just throw in all the bits of veg that are a bit too limp to enjoy steamed, add butter (because that hides a multitude of sins  ) some herbs, garlic, perhaps some left over tinned tomatoes and a handful of red lentils. Serve with home made bread and it's frugal...

Re: Question for home educators

our dd was in school for 2 years and in that time I watched my child's self confidence being eroded. She also picked up some really bad habits from other kids, such as sassy behaviour that she didn't even understand. I felt that her schooling consisted of learning how to be a bully or how to be bull...

Re: I fancy going on a rubbish reduction year

Ooo, brilliant thread  and a big good luck to everyone.

We put our bin out this week for the first time in around 6 months. This year we want to see if we can get through a year!

Once you start to develop some habits, you pick up more and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Thank you Zoe; great advice and an easy recipe - what more can I ask for. I think my dd would love this soup with the noodles in :)

Ah yes, I'm with imeasure too. I'll look out for the club, but I couldn't figure out what you could actually do when you were in the clubs?
