If I could keep hens I would get them from this org. I think it's fantastic.

When/ if I leave my terraced house with it's tiny yard, I look forward to getting some hens.

Cheers 9ball, I've got some pure soft soap, I'll take that up with me tomorrow & give the blighters a good soaking. It's our first full year on the lottie & we've established a four-bed rotation system. Were planning to leave the roots in the legume bed anyway, but thanks for the confirming ...

Black-fly on me Runners

Checked runner beans on Fri & picked more beans for the pot, but noticed the plants are infested with tiny black flies. I'm assuming these are Blackfly, am I right & will they damage the plants? We're still getting beans from the plants & are leaving some to go to seed, so don'...

Not a lantern of any description, but another use for beer cans: I've got a book - Eco Deco - which shows a drawer front covered in flattened out beer cans ie the cans are cut down their length with tin snips then opened out & flattened, attached to a board which is then attached to the drawer f...

Love your bargains (& I admire your skill, bargain hunting is a skill) & your cats. My mad cat also insists on wandering around the worktops & other available surfaces in the kitchen. I've given up trying to stop her & just wash everything down before preparing food on it. Of course,...

Bit late seeing thread, but will add my twopennyworth anyway as a friend of mine suffers badly from tinnitus as did a former colleague. The colleague read an article that linked caffiene intake to tinnitus, so he cut out caffeine & although the tinnitus remained (irreversible damage caused it in...

I've given up trying to grow basil outside, I grow it from seed & keep it indoors on a window-sill, albeit a northish-facing one.

Hi Jobi1,
I live in the centre of Leicester & share an allotment with friends. It's great fun so good luck with your lottie plans. If you'd like a look round our site - our plot's not the most attractive or productive but others are both - let me now & we'll arrange it.
Cheers

I've SORNed the car, so have about 24hrs left of use out of it. Tomorrow I'm off to do a big stock-up at the Co-op & drop off some stuff at the lottie, then it's to the garage. BF has found it very therapeutic to clear out his garage, so that's the first benefit  As I mentioned earlier, I'm...

Thanks for the heads up on the insurance. The main thing worrying me was how to get to my folks, as the trains aren't exactly convenient. But BF & 2 good friends have all offered me use of their cars, if they're not using them, for these trips. All I'll have to do is pay to be added to their ins...
