Re: Gardening Indoors

But you have a personal juke box!!!! (envy, envy) ...
Put on hot music and the seeds will come up rocking and keep themselves warm (yes, I've had a glass of wine).

Re: Unwanted presents?!

Distract yourself, Ina - I'm sure you could put the box to very creative use.
Feet up, hot toddy, a good book and keep warm (which is MY idea of luxury, although I do resent having to get back up to refill the toddy).

Re: Spring?

Every year for the past six (or seven or eight) years or so, we've had a Herman. Herman is a blackbird - OK, he's a number of blackbirds, all of whom, I'm convinced, share a lot of genetic material. The original Herman would nag us for food, run figures of eight around my feet, wait in the same spot...

Just before ...

... everyone descends into the general haze of Christmas celebrations (not, of course, including the many teetotallers on the board) ... (What am I saying?) ...

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Re: Vertical gardening

Hi Thomzo - nice to talk to you again. Don't worry - I'm just having a general moan. My knees and back have done pretty well but they're getting on a bit now, so it's more a man-moan than anything else. I did toy with the idea, last night, of getting sunken paths dug and it took a while to realise w...

Re: Turnip wine ( and others)

I looked it up. US rutabaga = English swede (if you see what I mean) and Scottish neep (as in neeps and tatties).

Re: No Bees?

We've been through a couple of those, Weedo. Those flies, if they're anything like ours, do a bit of pollination - not half as good as bees, but it's something. Other than that, it's a camel-hair water-colour brush, a good supply of beer and a gentle afternoon distributing pollen yourself. I recomme...

Re: Vertical gardening

I should have been more specific. I CAN kneel down - but I can't get back up again, so If I'm by myself it would be a stupid thing to do. I can also bend a bit, but it's pot luck - half of the time my back cramps and locks and, believe me, that makes me say "Golly Gosh, that smarts a little&quo...

Or do you mean a twistgrip?
If so, just Google "twist shifter hard to turn" and Bob's your uncle.

Re: Turnip wine ( and others)

Well, it's not so much disastrous wine made from vegetables, Bernard, but wines from those particular vegetables. I wouldn't even consider a potato wine because of the inherent starch problems and, although its not so obvious, you can get similar starch problems with turnips and swede. But it's cert...

Re: For all you Linux fans ...

I don't think I knew you were a bit of a ham, Odsox. I used to be the proud owner of a wartime (or possibly just pre-war) HRO monster which I attempted to rebuild. Unsuccessfully - but it kept me amused for a couple of years.

Re: For all you Linux fans ...

I recognise the 'problems', although they're not always really problems. Odsox, it may open your eyes if you look at a program called WINE. I have several Windows bits and pieces running happily under that (one of them a game with some heftyish graphics requirements - which I run, of course, for res...

Re: Turnip wine ( and others)

How strange that is, Ina (and hello, by the way - it's a long time since we last spoke). Celery wine is one of those things I've never made but always thought would be pretty good. I have images in my head of a very light white with just a hint of that celery scent and flavour which makes celery nic...
