I can never be bothered blanching my beans, I just put them on trays and freeze them. They taste ok but then, I've never tasted blanched and frozen beans...am I missing something?

I planted gladiator as well as several other varieties on a deep bed that had not been composted this year but had loads of the stuff last year. I gave them potash and potassium...and what did I get, ....really big, healthy WEEDS!!!!

I always mulch with leaf mould or spent hops whichever I happen to have. storing veg for winter

I now have beetroot, swede and turnips that I want to keep for the winter. I will cook some of the beets and store them in vinegar but I would really like to freeze some of these veg or store them some way so that I could use them fresh. I'm not really into making a cloch from soil as I have nowhere...

my lettuce and rocket have both bolted..I've eaten the lettuce and it tasted just the same, I just cut off the bolted bit. my rocket is flowering like mad so I will just plant some more..it did this last year and the second crop was fine

don't mention parsnips...I've put 7 ( yes SEVEN) packets of seeds in and none have come up.

ok, so bees are not strictly speaking livestock, being insects, but mine are happily ( I think) living in their hive in the shed on my allotment. Apparently you can keep bees anywhere and no one has the power to make you move them. At least that's what the Council and all the bee books say. Next yea...

courgettes

I've a glut of courgettes, probably the same as many other people, any one any ideas for things that I can cook to use them up...something that will freeze...or perhaps a courgette relish or pickle???

you can sometimes get chickens from the local animal rescue centre....my friend got hers there and that's where I shall get mine...50p each...rescued from the battery farm
