I'd say find someone who's familiar with the local fungi,and see if they can find the time to drag you along on a forage. Last autumn I was on vacation in the Ardennes,and I brought a pretty decent fieldguide with me. Once I was in the middle of mushroom central doubt rose...they look so much alike....

This is not all that hard to make,I'm just lucky to have access to awesome professional tools and machines at my job.
Time is another issue though...that's why I try to keep things simple and straight-forward.

Sacrificed a couple of coffee-breaks to cut and fold some leftovers from work.
