Re: What are you havesting
He has a microclimate and an enormous polytunnel, a large greenhouse and a conservatory/sunroom where he grows year round tomatoes. I'm harvesting this: http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-tuR36o-nXBY/UR9Frt7KULI/AAAAAAAAR-U/FQfpftxi5_s/s640/IMG_1845.JPG I also have loads of leeks but th...

Re: Tobacco
there's a great long thread about us all growing Golden Virginia tobacco from seed here a couple of years ago. Do a search on tobacco seeds/growing on the forum. Whatever the rules and regs are, I don't think anyone cared. I smoked about 3 roll ups from home grown tobacco and that was all I co...

Re: Bees & Pesticides
Aaargh even here I'm getting ads for Canon Speedlites because I've been researching which one to get. And now it's advertising Andorra because I've been researching the Pyrenees (not Andorra!) for birdwatching! I suppose it makes a change from those nice Asian ladies.   Still don't u...

Re: Bees & Pesticides
I'll be fine here too Tony  I don't understand this paragraph: "only uses on crops not attractive to honeybees were considered acceptable" because of exposure through nectar and pollen. Such crops include oil seed rape, corn and sunflowers. Are they saying those crops are or are not a...

There are two Ish pages, Fee, and now an Ish group, which I think is the one being used most. It's all a bit confusing really!

Re: Fresh rhubarb
At least this thread has reminded me what the plantless pot in my cold frame is. Suffice to say, my rhubarb is not sprouting despite being even warmer than the already mild outside temperature!

Re: Fresh rhubarb
It has to first be grown outside until it matures, then it is lifted and forced in an indoor shed. After that it needs to be replanted outside and not harvested for 2-3 years so that it can regain its strength! I found my rhubarb never recovered after being forced.

Re: Fresh rhubarb
It's too big really to be an indoor plant as they have huge roots and would need a really big pot - I can't imagine it doing well inside. Maybe in a huge pot outside in the shade, that you can keep well watered? It's worth a try if you like it that much!

Re: Fresh rhubarb
Demi - I wouldn't even bother trying rhubarb there. I have much cooler weather but always have dry weather during summer and it really hates it and spends much of the year dormant.
