Try chopping or blending it and adding into their food, then introducing larger bits over time, I did it with my bantys and they eat anything now..

Re: French Beans
I did plant them around corn because I was trying the three sisters method but the chooks dug them all up! So they have obviously germinated anyway but not where I planted them! :) Same thing happened with the beetroots as well, have got them all over the place now but they seem to be doing ok so I'...

Re: How do I get my cat to stop peeing on my couch?
Jandra said everything I was going to say and it has worked with the various kitty incidences I have had over the years.
Step one - remove smell (ideally replace with unpleasant to cat smell)
Step two - provide tray
I guess the other option is to keep kitty out of that room...

I found vista quite obnoxious until I stopped all the stuff that runs in the background or self installs. Now I have it doing exactly what I tell it to do I find it far more amenable :)

I will flash boil of stir fry them for a quick min or two in already hot oil/water. Much crispyer that way.

Re: Bl**dy neighbours and access to property
Can you not just push start your bike on the road bit rather than than the path bit?.. At the risk of playing devil's advocate I can see their point of view particularly if someone else has done something similar without the same level of care that you seem to put into it.. When the neighbour confro...

French Beans
I was just wondering when is best to pick french beans. For the first time mine have not been eaten or died off and I have just found them doing rather well amongst my corn and butternuts. :flower: They are about 6 inches long already but still look quite thin and the beans are not very developed ye...

Re: permission needed to keep chucks ?
As Merry said, some tenancy agreements/contracts say you can't keep poultry. I don't know why these are in contracts but presumably something to do with public health issues. We have bantys in our small back garden and the landlord did not have an issue with it. The neighbours all love them as well,...

Re: Thinking of Christmas in July!
I have given seeds as gifts before. Easy to grow stuff that doesnt need much space always goes down well. I have made jams and chutneys as well and start knitting or sewing things in the autumn with the intention of giving them as gifts. I have yet to perfect basket weaving (still a long way off!) b...

My butternuts and pumpkin survived when I moved them to the allotment. I would second grahams comment on not disturbing the roots, they dont need to loosening of the soil and the less roots you loose the better

Re: banties versus chooks?
I have a silkie and polish bantam and they are both lovely friendly things.. They are more pets than livestock tbh!
Neither of them can fly because they have the weird feathers so that is handy. I find them fantastic pets but have not had full sized chickens so can't give a comparison..
