Re: New to apple trees

Your stone fruits (plum, cherry, greengage) should be pruned in the summer, my cherry tree fruited well this year but only on last years growth, so I pruned it quite heavily last week so I could net it. Your apples and pears should be pruned in the winter. The idea of pruning is to cut out any disea...

Re: Red split lentils?

I find red lentils as the main part of a dish are too dry, but I do go through loads. I chuck a handful of red lentils into tomato sauce (for pasta) which is lovely, if you make a tomato sauce with a bit of bacon or sausages in it you can get away with 2 or 3 handfuls of red lentils. chuck a handful...

Re: ...get rid of several tons of rubble?

You might try offering it on freecycle.... somebody might need it to fill a 'ole

other than that... hire a skip and be done with it (it'll cost a few hundred though)

Re: ESSE Range advice

From what I know I don't think you can pre heat water for a combi boiler  but then I don't know how this 'centraliser unit' works.... Having said that.... you probably won't need a very powerful model of Esse, since you already have other heating methods that can act as top-up or that this ...

Re: Scotland (we're going on holiday!)

There is a bit of a distance between Galloway and Mull  A wee drive up the west coast to Ayr and get the ferry over to Arran (not been there since I was teeny wee, but it is on the list for when we have a few days to get away) You could even pop over to the Mull of kintyre from Arran. Re: Homemade plant pots anyone?

You can reuse a huge range of packaging as plant pots  .... yogurt tubs, soft fruit punnets, ready meal trays, tetra packs (from juice etc) loads of stuff....

I have managed to get loads of real ones off of freecycle too

Re: It's not easy being green, Dick Strawbridge - Yay or nay

I *think* I got it out of the library some years ago and it was a bit rubbish.... I seem to remember there was very little content in it, more of a shiny coffee table book companion of the TV series.... I'll have a look to see if I wrote a review at the time.... you should however all own a copy of ...

Re: New to chooks

I'm sure most places will be fine but best to check your local by-laws by phoning the council... even just to put your mind at rest.

If you were keeping pet rabbits in your garden would you think twice? and if others are keeping pigeons I am sure there won't be any issues at all.
