can't identify a fish!!Help please!!
A couple of years ago whilst using my crayfish trap I caught 2 fish in a local small river. I brought them home and put them into my pond where they are still living happily. Trouble is I dont know what they are. They are about 5 inches long and a browny colour!! They both have white spots on the to...

I know there are some people about who sell them but they are quite hard to track down and buy from. I believe there is one in or around London but sorry I cant help further...

Re: Should I get a freezer?
We run 3 freezers and use them to put extra veg and fruit that we grow,so that it keeps us fairly self reliant for the year in certain things,e.g. sprouts, carrots, plums etc. We also use one just meat. I definately think this saves money in the long term as we only go shopping once a month and again ...

Woad and how to make the dye
I have been growing Woad for a couple of years and now I would like to try and make the dye. I have looked up various sites and they all differ slightly on how to make it and whether to use soda ash or cream of tartar for example. Does anyone have a site they recommend on how to make Woad dye or any...

Re: Any tips to help back ache.
I dont know if this would work for backs but it does for other aches and pains in joints -that is to put a bit of WD40 on it and rub in. Honest I am not joking, it does work.OK you may pong a bit but for some reason it seems to work!!

Re: Incubating without an incubator?!
I am not sure how long eggs can be left after they have been under a broody. However when I was using an incubator I would collect eggs over a 3 -4 day period to have a load and then put them to incubate and they hatched ok. I have heard of some eggs hatching when they have been put near a heat sour...

Re: badger or fox?
The pawprints near the run in some mud were studied !!!! They were to small and not heavy enough into the ground to be a badger. However I think it could have been 2 foxes due to the flattened areas where I think they ate some of the chooks. I have spent today emtying the area of housing etc and hav...

Re: badger or fox?
Last night a fox got into the coop bypassing all the boulders, stones and wire and killed all 6. I found 2 areas in the garden where he or they had laid and munched the chooks. No a pretty sight with body parts all over the place so now i am going back to square one and re desiging a fox proof coop,...

Re: Chicken Removing Straw from Nesting Box
I had a chicken who refused to have straw in the box a few years ago and no matter how I put it in she didnt like it and she kept putting it outside the box,so I just gave up and used wood shavings and she was quite happy for a few years and laid ok also. Maybe some chooks just dont like straw!!
