Re: Goats
@ Alice Abbott, firstly, well done for saving the goat from the great pasture in the sky! do you know just how old she is? goats really shouldnt be kept as an "only child" - is there no way of getting her a companion, or getting her in kid? single goats are lonely, and can cause havoc... e...

Re: chickens and duck babys
if I've read your post right... the ducklings are 3 days old? They should be under a heat lamp, especially at night. (in the wild, theyd be under mum) the ex-batteries, if they're brown? are Warrens (ISA brown) hybrids - they very rarely go broody, so would never look after the ducklings. they are m...

Re: Complete Dried Cat Food
Alfie, at 14-odd, may well find dry food just too hard on his teeth. a gradual swapping over is the best way to go. we too get probs with flies (have 4 cats, and the dog) and I often just put the tins (covered) into the fridge - they're not in there long enough for too many problems to happen! Sache...

make stuff with bi-carb?
In the Health & Beauty seciton, I keep reading stuff about toiletries (shampoo, toothpaste etc) made with Bicarbonate of soda... what I need is some simple instructions on how to make these - quantities, how to store them, how long it should keep etc. we are living on virtually nothing - If I do...

Re: What to do with a bale of hay ?
have you put the whole bale for the chickens, or have I misunderstood?
give them just a few handfuls at a time, so they can scratch and get to the various seeds.
know anyone with pigs? they love to break up a square bale!
If you were nearer me, I'd give it a home!
