Re: 101 uses for a bread bag

They're also useful for putting smelly rubbish in. You can tie it up, and seal the smells in, so you won't have to discard the bin bag as often if it isn't full up!

Good Energy

Hello all!! I've been away from the forum for a while as I've been busy with work, but I'm back for the time being! Hello! Earlier this year I switched my energy supplier from E.On to Good energy, "Britain's only 100% renewable energy supplier". The last of my dealings with th...

Mega Dam in the Amazon

Sign this petition aimed at President Rousseff of Brazil, to stop development of a potentially extremely damaging project, both environmentally and socially:

Re: 101 uses for a bread bag

I have a new one!!

When clipping your toenails and fingernails, stick your hand/foot in a bread bag to stop nail clippings from flying all over the place. When finished, simply tip them from the bread bag into the bin...or compost!

I'm off to do so now!!!

Re: Freecycle (love it)

Back in November I got a lovely new sofa via freecycle!! It never ceases to amaze me what a wonderful, underused system freecycle is!! Not only for the money saving, free stuff benefits and environmental benefits, but for the way it connects people with good old fashioned human interaction! And obvi...

How do they pay their rates, electricity, water, insurances etc. etc. etc. oh and if any left at the end of the day eat   Sue :flower: The rule was a pound a day after rent. She doesn't mention electricity or water, so she might have included it in...

Re: Self sufficientish Toilet Paper

Newspaper is the obvious option I suppose, and throwing it in the compost, or using a compost toilet ould be the most straightforward way of disposing of it. But I was wondering if anyone has any experience of making their own toilet paper that you can just flush into a normal toilet, to see if this...

Re: DIY Wormery

Also, a good thing to remember is that worms don't have teeth and they can't eat massive amounts, so wormeries are best for processing kitchen waste that is already composted....

How I lived on a pound a day for a year

By Kath Kelly. I've just finished reading it, and it is very inspirational! Really encouraging, and a whole lot better than most "How to be thrifty" books I've read. A lot of the content concerns self sufficientish actions e.g. freecycle, scavenging skips, freeganism, growing your own. Has...

Self sufficientish Toilet Paper

Does anyone have any experience in alternative, self sufficientish toilet paper? Can you make your own?
Can you just use Newspaper, and what effect will that have on the plumbing?

Any ideas?

Re: Help ...courgettes

The soil on my plot was full of bits of slate, so I used the larger bits to rest the courgettes on as they grew, to minimise their contact with the soil and it seemed to reduce the amount that rotted. I also built little Forts out of dried bramble to keep the slugs off. The woodlice got some. But we...

Re: First peach

Once when I was working in a garden centre, I picked and ate a ripe peach from a dwarf tree and it was delicious!!!

There is a massive difference between these and those you get from supermarkets!
