Re: Are you still smoking tobacco?
Been smoking a pipe for 20 months now. Should have started 20 years ago!

Re: Reedbed query
There is only Typha in the bed - ultimately this is what was spec'd and passed by the council and SEPA. I would though like to introduce a little colour around the margins so your suggestions are helpful. Nice snake! Maybe once my bed is further established I might get some. It does get full sun so ...

Re: Reedbed query
Thanks for the comments - I had read that maintenance note too but was not 100% it applied to Typha. Gut feel says cut them down and I agree with both of you that this is what should be done. Just needed a little bit of confidence that I was on the right track! I doubt there will be any snakes thoug...

Reedbed query
My reedbed is now 18 months old. It's for the grey water from the house only. It's planted up with Typha Latifolia - bull rushes, the ones with the fuzzy thing on the top. When I planted it out, it was single stem plants and these are now spreading well. This time last year, they were only a couple ...

Mandala or regular raised beds?
Ok, here we go with my current quandary! There's no veg plot at the straw bale hoose, but there's a reasonably flat, elevated area which has long been earmarked by me as the spot for veggies. It's exposed to the sun and a short distance from my back door. It was heavily overgrown but in a wee 'labou...

Re: Cropredy 2012
Mike - great review! Saw Ahab at Cropredy too another good band. I listened to Bellowhead in advance of the Cropredy gig and could not really get my head round the huge number of instuments in the band - it's quite an eclectic mix of sounds but once I had sat with my cans on and listened a few times...

Re: Cropredy 2012
I'd love to TG - looks like a great lineup. Bellowhead and Richard Thompson would get me there on their own. Too far though, I'm afraid. :( I first saw Bellowhead there a couple of years back and think they are fab. Mr Thompson sadly does not float my boat though. I will volunteer his slot for my c...

Re: Should I get a freezer?
I used to have Siemens Plessey kit amongst my military arsenal so they are out. I think there was a Bosch dishwasher in the galley too but maybe that does not count.

Re: Should I get a freezer?
FYI, Beko's parent company (Koc) is involved in arms manufacture. Good luck with it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14025550 Thanks for the heads up - the fire element is disturbing, but possibly now their appliances are improved as a result. On the arms manufacture, whilst this will a...

Re: Should I get a freezer?
I think I have chosen a Beko one via the Co-op. It will increase my daily electricity consumption from 1.6 to 2.1kWh on paper, but having thought about it, this should actually be much lower as I have a 2.35kW array on the roof so during generation times the freezer leccy will come from the solar on...

Re: Should I get a freezer?
Zoe, it's for those reasons I would use one but... I have managed fine for 14 months whilst in the caravan (no oven in there either) but now the house is done, I wonder if I will get one. There's just me so I am not sure it's necessary. I am a tight Scottish person remember: I am thinking about my l...
