Re: Marrow Rum

I'm not sure, GA. I have a sneaking feeling that it's an ongoing challenge - first person to make something really drinkable from a marrow takes the prize. But I worry about the reasoning. There's loads of really decent winemaking ingredients available when marrows start leering at you (and, let's f...

Vertical gardening

No, not the plants - me. As my joints have deteriorated (that's hard for one so young as me) (???!!?) my garden activities have had to change. I can still get the apples, pears, plums and damsons from the orchard because they're in the general direction of UP. I can no longer get the lettuces, spuds...

Re: Turmeric

A bit of a late reply, but India won the case in 1997 - the patent application was thrown out.
Your question brought me out in a sweat in case I'd been eating illegal rhogan josh all these years. Or maybe that was the chili.

EDIT: Rogan josh. How do those rogue H's get in there?

Re: Turnip wine ( and others)

Retsina is good - but you have to give it a while to get used to the VERY resinous flavour. Potato wine ... ... ... why? Turnip/swede wine .... again, why? You can make an alcoholic drink by fermenting a solution of sugar with some yeast nutrient in it, and it's (relatively) tasteless. Potato/turnip...

Re: Marrow Rum

Very late, I know, Bernard, but you'd be absolutely correct in what you say. I have been running a one-man campaign for several years in an effort to prevent people from deliberately infecting themselves with strange microbe-y type organisms which would abound in a rotting marrow (the state which a ...

So - five years on and no further replies. Does this mean that everyone and their mum is now on Linux?

Being a glutton for punishment, I tried this again.
I never learn ....

Probably rupture the cell walls by increasing the osmotic pressure.

Just a guess, though.

Re: Allotment thefts, how can we prevent?

Those are fine, CM, if you can adjust the sensitivity to exclude triggers from any animals smaller than a fair-sized dog. Otherwise birds, rabbits, foxes and even moths if they're close enough will set off an alarm.

Re: Allotment thefts, how can we prevent?

Hi Happyhippy ... For goodness sake, don't waste your money on one camera. In daylight anyone can see where it points, and then it's a simple matter to approach it from behind and cut the video cable - result: no camera (either in effect or literally - people nick cameras). At MINIMUM, you need two,...

Oh that's the way to do it! Welcome to Ish, Tomatoes (I trust you don't mind the informal name).

Plenty of time to look around and get to know people before it all starts.
