Re: Christmas Pudding Day!

Hurrah for Christmas! :santa:

Is it bad that I'm swigging the left-over pudding alcohol while I'm cooking the dinner? hic :drunken:

Re: Christmas Pudding Day!

Wow, late November. I really AM early! Oh well, it's fun :santa: Cassiepod - yes, I guess it is a good one for the summer hols! Might be worth doing all the chopping/grating/zesting in advance. My poor little 3-year old's attention span didn't quite last the entire, labour-intensive process

Re: Christmas Pudding Day!

Oh no, when's Stir-Up Sunday?!! Actually, I've realised that in my haste running around the supermarket trying to buy everything before the baby got too grumpy to go on, all the dried fruit I bought is covered in palm oil :( I've been trying to stay away from palm oil because of the orangutans. My C...

Christmas Pudding Day!

OK, ok, I know it's early, but I take my Christmas pudding very seriously! Does anyone else make it in June, or am I being a weirdo? Today is Christmas Pudding Day. Here are all my ingredients laid out on top of the oven last night, ready to be mixed today. I wouldn't normally lay them out (I'm not ...

Re: Beans (dried)

I've recently got really into dried beans. I turned veggie a few months ago and since then have completely re-stocked my cupboards with every imaginable dried bean! Yes, they are fantastically cheap (I think a bag of dried beans - any kind - costs about £1 in most supermarkets, and once they're soak...

Re: Goji Berry Plant

And the beneficial effect is? They're supposed to be loaded with vitamin c - I got in the habit of eating a few every day because I was getting fed up with catching every single cold my little girl brought home from pre-school  Having said that, I think the ones they sell in the superma...

Re: Let's talk Lady Birds.

Yes, ladybirds are fab. And they have the added bonus of being very pretty and child-friendly  A nice beginner-bug that they won't be scared of. MMM - I put the jam out and the ants have swarmed over it, hurrah! Myself and 3-year old daughter had a baby ladybird transfer session yesterda...

Re: make do and mend; is it worth it?

I set my cheap T*sco blender on fire making houmous. For some reason that has just made me laugh 'til I pooped myself! Brilliant! How?!! You must have been really whizzing that thing! I've been considering a VitaMix (is that the same as MagiMix?) but they are SO expensive. I would literally have to...

Re: A little bit pregnant...

Julie, that's such a lovely present for a big, waddling, heavily pregnant lady! Reminds me of when I went to get my hair cut when I was 8 months pregnant. I'd been having really bad hot flushes - I waddled up to the hairdressers (all uphill) and while I had the attractive apron thing on, and various...

Re: Cabbage, cauliflower & swede

Thanks Odsox, have just ordered some brassica collars from ebay (not very 'ish', I know, should probably have asked freecycle or something for them!). I'll keep an eye out for the 'pillars - our next door neighbour's garden is an overgrown wilderness and ever so good for over-the-fence caterpillar-f...

Cabbage, cauliflower & swede

Hi all. I recently started off some seedlings of all the above veggies and have now planted them out into the veg patch. I've not grown any of these before, just wondering if I need to put slug rings around them, or similar? And presumably I'll need to net them off to keep the butterflies off? (Lear...

Re: Let's talk Lady Birds.

Thanks Mike & MMM. I'll spend saturday putting out saucers of jam and transferring baby ladybirds. Yet again, my neighbours will be wondering what the hell I'm up to.
