Re: no snow!!!!!!
Every year around February there is snow. The authorities are always caught out! We get the usual cry. Airports closed, trains not running, roads not salted and gritted, schools closed (it only takes one flake of snow for school boilers to fail), and this year, not for the first time panic buying (a...

Re: collecting eggs for incubation
Are you collecting from just one hen? How big is your incubator? I'd personally not collect for more than a week/10 days, just to be sure they are fresh Its only a three week til you can set the next lot!! you can even add them in for a couple of days, if you mark them so you know which ones you'll...

collecting eggs for incubation
This may seem a daft question but... A broody chicken can hatch say 12 eggs. Now, given that a chicken lays 1 egg per day she must be waiting for 12 days before beginning incubating. a) How long can I keep eggs before incubating? b) Should the collected eggs be kept warm before incubating or at what...

Re: Sugar
As someone with diabetes I tend to look at labels for sugar content. The basic principle is 4g = 1 teaspoon sugar. I have also found this which I share to give some idea of the problem of the overload of sugar. BTW have you noticed those cooks on TV can't cook without a frying pan or loads of sugar?...

Re: mushrooms
When I first moved here I went to a local mushroom farm for some spent compose with the idea of lighting the soil in the polytunnel however it was not like I expected it was like packs of horse manure with a layer of soil on top. I took these and buried them in the tunnel 3 weeks later i couldn't mo...

Re: Get the best out of my Dutch Oven
:? Apart from an oven from Holland what is a Dutch oven? The only thing I have come across was in the Black Country Museum where a lady claimed the implement she was using was a Dutch oven It was like a cylinder with the front cut out It was made of metal and items such as bacon slices were hung on ...
