Anyone else keep exotics?
I know it's not very ishy of me, it's my one big weakness but I have a number of "exotic" pets, (corn snakes, giant African land snails and axolotls) and was wondering if anyone else on here has exotic pets?

Re: Backyard Aquaculture (fish farming)
Gah! Why didn't I stumble across this thread sooner? Apologies if this has already been said and I missed it but if you are adding fish to a pond before it is fully cycled then regular water changes, ie: 5% every week, will help to stop ammonia, nitrite and nitrate building to dangerous levels. I ag...

Re: New Years Resolutions anyone??

Re: Best insulate a 1930's cottage ?
Some of our double glazed windows let in daughts so we fixed the problem with gaffa tape along the broken seals. Obviously we haven't done that on all the windows as we still need some ventilation but it works well and is cheap.

Re: Help with family
P&P there are similar issues in my family only with people on my dad's side rather than my OH's side. Making time for certain relatives comes very low on my list of priorities because I am fed up of the way they treat myself and my mum. Sadly my dad believes his family can do no wrong and that m...

Re: I went out faraging, apparently I am not normal
I used to be in a larping group that met in one of the best foraging parks in town. It got to be a running joke that I would snack on berries as we roamed the woods. One time a person who had just joined the group saw me pop a berry in my mouth, and launched into a 20-minute lecture on how "ma...

Re: A bit of tea and sympathy required......
Speaking as a daughter who has had to move back to Hotel Mum&Dad after some set backs I would have to say she needs a serious smack round the head (figure of speech) to knock some sense into her. I know I'm being rude but I think your daughter is being very selfish and very naieve. Number 1 as y...

If you'll have 15 acres then I reckon you'll be fine with John Seymour. He requires too much land for most of us though :( John Seymours book covers small "urban garden" places, the 1 acre small holding and the 5 acre small holding. You can pick and choose which bits are suitable for how ...

Re: Winter warmers?
Snow! I know most people find it a complete pain, but growing up I only had two occasions where it snowed in Jersey, one of which I don't even remember (apparently we built an igloo!) and as a result everytime I see snowflakes I turn into a little 6 year old girl again. Ok it's lead to some emergenc...

Re: please help, snail trouble
I have a little slug who lives in my bathroom. If you want to catch the little fellow you will have the best luck in the late evening and night time when they are active. Just pop into the living room before bed and you'll find him in no time, that or try to follow his trails back to h...
