maybe it's a pH thing? My Rosemary has to be cut back regularly to stop her assaulting the postman as she invades the path ( note to self - really must try to make something of the thinnings- wool dye? oil-of?) we're on alkaline soil here (chalk) quite thin topsoil with good drainage.
