Re: Home made skin toner

Try eating it instead - a few walnuts, walnut oil on lettuce (very nice) or olive oil. I'm told brazil nuts are good too but expensive. Then its not wasted earth resources!

Re: Adverts on the site and cups of tea

The ad that is really "not good" is the one that some times replaces the ish bible advert "LatinaRomance - find out who waiting to meet you" With some female suggesting she has something to offer...who's idea is that one? Who ever it is should say 150 "cups of tea" to c...

Hi fee fairy - I noticed I called you "wee fairy" before uuupps sorry, a fraudian slit of the fingers! Do you do/know anything about traditional chinese acupunture? The old masters go by the smell of the client. I find this when I'm healing as well. So if you smell sweet it sounds good :ic...

Re: How to warm up cold room

Its advertising boarding in Coniston Cold now - perhaps that's the answer, go on holiday somewhere really cold then you will appreciate the UK mild winters! I think cups of tea would help - well to quote a famous film - "well sir it can't do any 'arm can it sir" (yes - probably not ...

Re: Keeping chickens warm

Our hen house has that foil insulation on the roof but that is also to keep it cool in the summer. Draught free is probably the best thing on a very cold night but you must open it up in the day. Last year we got a night down to minus 15degC (-5 actually in the chicken shed!) and they all survived. ...

I've just noticed this one.....you beat the walnut tree to damage the bark to increase the "figuring" of the wood - thats the pretty pattens that people like in walnut timber...not to harvest the nuts!

Fruit Presses - any experiences

I'm thinking of investing a couple of hundred euros in a fruit press. Mainly for apples and pears. All the tready alternatine life style celebs have pictures of them using them but is that just a good photo op. and really they are not very useful? One person I know has a small one and its hard work ...

No you don't get "spring" onions here - white paris onions in june - the first onions available are the closest. I thin my seedling in spring so effectively get spring onions - probably how it all started! I'm in 49 - department not age (agggh not quite  ) We grow all our vegi and fr...

Re: Adverts on the site and cups of tea

I'm glad I read this as I was a bit concerned at the choices of Ads on this site - but I've just see an ad for green tea extract!

Perhaps if all our signatures were about tea and seeds it would have an effect? :banghead:

I need a cup of tea...!

Re: make butter from UHT milk?

as an aside I think Carrafour was the "shop" a permaculture friend was telling me is the best for organic stuff and if Green Peace want any agreements they are the first to agree - how genuine they are I don't know. We don't have one here. What do you think MMM? (especially at 6:30 in the ...

Re: Any ideas what these are?

Looks a bit big for a crab apple though they do have thorns (usally when young) - but it could it be a self seeded something or other apple - you can tell as the tree won't be grafter onto another stock. Not a real quince - they are more pair shaped and bright yellow and extemely hard. And not a Jap...

Re: make butter from UHT milk?

Just in case you want to know  The Chinese race can't break down milk in their digestive system. After 6 years old humans are naturally weaned off milk and loose the ability to break it down. For some reason American and Brits and other western Europians have managed to evolve to keep eating t...

Re: Cob Oven

We've got one like graham describes. It's over 8 foot diameter and 3 foot or so high. You get an amazing vortex of fire in it. We push the fire to one side to cook. Its a good way of using brash made into faggots.

It works well as the centre of summer meals for guests.
