Re: Pickled

I'm going to try purple carrots too and this idea of stripy beetroot could be fun. But one thing at a time as I share stuff with family and they might not take to a great number of strange things all at the same time.

Re: Pickled

Thank you all and keep the ideas coming. Hmm - unfortunately I'm vegetarian and also allergic to alcohol so wine is not the best idea. :bom: I had discovered a number of good recipes that were not vegetarian :( I do have a recipe for beetroot chutney that I might just try when I've been do...

Re: Pickled

There's a panic on because I have got to 19 pots (think marmalade sized ones) and the kids think that we can't possibly eat that much pickled beetroot even if it's brilliant. And I've still got half a standard black bucket of beetroot and no idea what to do with it if I don't pickle it - o...

Pickled

You see me here, you see me there but if I'm not here or there for a few days 'tis the pickling of beetroot that is the cause of it. Look for me at the sign of the red hand

Re: A Big Question

You can take a child to learning but if the desire is not there - time wasted. In times passed when children went to school in order to learn to read, write and do basic arithmetic before being turned out into menial jobs there was a value placed on learning for the sake of learning because it could...

Re: Stick it to First - Start a bus co-op

Remember to take into account the fact that a lot of seats will be filled up by pensioners with free passes and what the county pays you won't cover the fares. Likewise - you won't get many regular passengers with older buses. Unfortunately people won't get out of their cars unless they are far more...

People may realise. But realisation and action are two different matters.

Re: down at the allotment and in the garden what are you up to

Had to take a day out today - housework and such like. Yesterday I took down the runner beans and roughly dug the space which is still horribly wet. But there's some chance of it drying a bit now so that I can do a proper dig later. Isn't it fun untangling runner beans and taking them to the compost...

Re: I'm feeling abit anxious

Have been there, done that and been out of anywhere to live in the last recession and out of a job too. It can be pretty "interesting" or downright fearsome depending on your character. Let's just say that it takes a few years to get yourself back on your feet. I was lucky and found work whilst othe...

Re: My carbon footprint!

Yes but it's far easier to bully individuals than large organisations isn't it? Now if the credit crunch helps business to look at the use of power - well good. We'll never have cheap power again so all layers of users from government downwards are actually going to have to start to look at their co...

Re: OUCH !!!!!

Hell - older drivers really have no need to drive with the free bus pass nowadays unless they live in the back of beyond. There should be regular tests - family member was retired by the family onto a bus pass because even he knew he was getting dangerous after his wife had a stroke as there was no ...

Other people's plastic shopping bags for bringing produce back from the allotment. Wash them again and again till they fall apart.

Re: What Utilities?

I've found that to do dual fuel on-line with payment by direct debit gives you a discount with any company because you do all the communication by email. This system usually means that you can enter your own meter readings before the bill is actually calculated by the company (mine sends an email as...
