Re: planting kiwi with supporting tree
bought a pair of kiwi plants which i am thinking of planting along with another tree, or trees, in the same holes as the kiwis, which will be a living support. (idea from Ben Hart's book) Has anyone else done this or have views on the idea? i'm kind of thinking of pruning the trees in an espallier ...

Re: Oxford graduate quit mainstream society to live a hobbit
What an interesting list of comments from people and so varied. It does not say what her income is, but it would seem that the land around belong to her and that of course will incur taxes. Surprised the local council have not seen the threat and tried to stop her from doing what she wishes to do. S...

Re: PM has lost it
Hi Mike, I think we have to choose which fight we need to undertake, I personally don't think that laws in general are there to protect the normal person in the street but to protect the rights of the people who make them. I came across a video the other day where the rich and large companies are ho...

Re: PM has lost it
This is an interesting debate, but I wonder what is really meant by the term Riot and the word criminal, because I doubt very much that we would be experiencing the life we lead today if some of these things did not happen. I see no need for the government to go down this road at all. They should be...

Welcome to the Forum and lets hope you get to planting soon. There are lots of things and skills needed for the land and all that goes with it so learn as much as you can before as mistakes can be costly.

Out of interest we find it best to leave for one day before taking feathers off and then hang another day, the upside is that one can collect the down for nice pillows or even a great mattress.

Re: volunteering on a farm
Yes I believe it's called workaway and there are several different sites, not sure if it covers the UK as well as Europe etc but I am sure you would have no problems. old post I know but you did not get any answer.

Re: Live off the Land Challenge
I have not read everything on this thread, but I would have serious doubts that you could live off 1 acre of land alone. The bit about keeping sheep alone would mean more land as they have to be moved around. But what the heck if the person wants to give it a go then go for it, but remember that dow...

Re: Communal Smallholding
I've been wanting to do more to live off the land for many years and after getting sick of waiting for the right opportunity to come along, I've decided to bite the bullet and try to get something going myself. We've started up a facebook group to look into the possibility of getting something off ...

Ducks
Good Morning MMM, First things first I thnk if they were completley in thier natural habitat they would possible have one mother to a designated area of say the river and that other females would not be allowed in to that area. I believe the mistake on our part was to allow the second mother access ...
