That's awful! Still, at least your conscience is clear as you know you are doing what you can right now and always moving forward with your Ish activities! They must be uncomfortable with themselves at some level if they can be bothered to have such an extreme reaction to what you do!

Re: Energy and water use?
Thanks Keith. In that case I'm currently using between 0.94 and 3.75 cubic metres of gas a day. Is that good, bad, indifferent? Does anyone know of any stats for average uses of energy in the UK? I know it's hard to define an average what with different ways of cooking, heating and different sizes o...

Re: One bin, one year, one family. Hooray.
Yeah, I'm also finding the packaging difficult, it just seems that *everything* has so much. I've written to shops, tried changing the things we buy and where from, but it is so frustrating and makes shopping much harder than it needs to be. Would a few paper or cornstarch (compostable) bags in supe...

I know this lady and she's great. Definitely on an Ish journey. Her blog is at http://myzerowaste.com/ and there's loads of helpful articles and discussions on there too.

Re: Pulling in our horns!!
Another vote for the Moneysavingexpert website - we've saved a lot of money by following tips and using discounts from there. One thing we do, is - if any friends or family are kind enough to want to buy us presents for Christmas and birthdays, then we ask for basic food items. So, at Christmas for ...

I look forward to the second part. Our only household toilet is downstairs, on an outside wall, with plenty of roof, and plenty of rain.

Re: 101 uses for a toilet tube insert
Make bats! Cut around the bottom of the tube, just elaving little feet dangling. Cut around the top of the tube, just leaving little sticking up triangular ears. Colour or paint in black. Cut out black paper wings and stick on the back, then glue or paint on eyes at the front. Pierce a small hole at...

Re: Energy and water use?
note to you brits, I am not sure what your unit of measure is for Natural Gas. But 1 therm equals : 2.75 cubic meters, or 105.5 Megajoules, or 100,000 Btu, or 97.3 Cubic Feet My gas bill charges me for cubic metres used but tells me my average daily usage of gas in kWh which must be a conversion bu...

Re: Experiences with no hair washing?
I have pretty greasy hair too, but after 3 weeks of no shampoo it seems to be starting to be less greasy. Certainly the roots and ends feel fine, it's the in between bit which is still yucky.

Re: Energy and water use?
Wow, that's great, can I ask how many of you there are in the household and the size of house? Any tips for how you cut down your usage? That must be way below average! My own usages are: gas: between 10 (summer) & 40 (winter) kWh per day elec: between 3.5 (summer) & 5.0 (winter) kWh per day...

Buying flour
I'm trying to find the nearest local flour mill that I can to start bulk-buying my flour, and the nearest I can find to Surrey in the southeast, is Shipton Mill in the Cotswolds. Does anyone know of, or use, one that is closer?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Energy and water use?
I am always trying to reduce our household use of energy and water and have been finding those 'average daily use' updates on the bottom of the bills these days really useful. I wondered if anyone else has been keeping an eye on those and fancied sharing their average daily uses so we can all try an...
