Re: Eggy issues

Hi. I'm a *very* inexperienced hen owner - 10 days so far! - but the people we bought ours from said that in warm weather hens will drink more water which could make the eggs more runny.

Re: Cloth nappies

Ooooh a fluffy thread! DS has eight Wonderoos, seven new style and one old style, that I use as the last resort. I also have a Sandys and two Thirsties wraps bugt I rarely ever use them. We get through 4-5 naps on the average day; I wash them in the evg and they're dry by morning. I'd absolutely lov...

Re: What products do babies actually NEED?

Helloo. Haven't posted in aaaages as I was having login probs. I had ours seven years apart so we had to start again. You need: friends who have stopped reproducing, a good Freecycle group and a concerned mother! We were given 90% of what we 'needed', and tbh we were pretty frugal about the whole bu...

Re: What can you make into cordial apart from elderflower?

Those are all wonderful ideas. The lemon sounds particularly delicious and what my husband wouldn't do for rhubarb cordial! Ideal as a friend has a huge rhubarb patch and doesn't like it so she's always giving us more than we can carry. Thanks for the link too. A cordialtastic summer coming up and g...

What can you make into cordial apart from elderflower?

I have a feeling that's gloriously ungrammatical but anyway... I have 8 litres of elderflower in the fridge - make that seven, we've blitzed one already - and I'd quite like to get something else on the go. I've heard of nettle cordial but never manage to find young tips of nettle - ours are all old...

Re: For expectant mums...

It so depends on your MW. Our first (with Max) was straight from the Ish boards - hands off, positive attitude, breathe, use whatever aids you've brought that you feel will help you, hugs before drugs etc. Sadly, as MWs do, she went off shift and then we were in the hands of the usual drug-happy squ...

Re: Gardening with small smalls - how do you do it??

Hi CT :) HtE is how old now - 8 months or so? He's older than Max, that much I *can* remember. I'm impressed that it's honeysuckle-gazing weather in Lanarkshire, it sure ain't in Herefordshire! I've just been to rescue my sodden washing from the line. I went for the travel cot option in the end and ...

Re: Ok it's a while since i was asked to put this on...

I finally found out from DH why he never puts Max in cloth when he changes him, despite being very happy with cloth naps: it's because he has to open the drawer and get them out!!! Max's disps for overnight and going out are in a vast bag sitting on the side right there so DH just uses them. He said...

Re: Can anyne help me ID a biiig bird in my garden?

Too small for a stork and not spindly enough. Quite familiar with storks as DH's family comes from Alsace, where the national bird is a stork! The pheasant tail is all wrong and we have zillions of pheasants around so very familiar with the shape. The Muscovy Duck is the closest so far. I'm wonderin...

No, they were much bulkier birds than that, but thanks for trying! I'm totally flummoxed!

Re: Can anyne help me ID a biiig bird in my garden?

I don't think so, these birds were a bit chunkier and had a good lick of back on their tails. The tails didn't trail, weren't long, but did hang downwards.

I'm very curious to know what they were!

Can anyne help me ID a biiig bird in my garden?

Hello, I just wondered if anyone here who keeps birds might know what this is. I live in Herefordshire on the border with Powys, on high land in the middle of fields and woodland (yes, it is paradise!). While roaming the house trying to calm down the baby, I spotted two of the following walking alon...

Gardening with small smalls - how do you do it??

Hello, I need to dig some soil improver into the PT and do some weeding, but Sir, 4 months, is not keen on this idea! I wheeled him into the PT in the pushchair earlier but he whinged and grizzled so I gave up. I wrapped him up, but he's not used to the pushchair as he doesn't spend much time in it....
