The little people must have hidden one there.
Actually not a rainbow, it was a hailbow.

Re: Exciting stormy weekend

Anyway...... look at how many posts MMM has... talk about pot...kettle...... :laughing5: As much as I hate to agree with you Julie  you are correct. Although MMM has been posting since 2005 she still racks up 175 posts per month on average. MW is about 200 but you are only managing 51 pm and m...

Re: Who wants to gloat

I only ever fish for mackerel off the rocks in front of the house ... now that's really fresh fish, can be caught, cooked and on your plate in minutes.
Not sure the biggest but one day I caught 6 on all 6 feathers on the trace, it was one hellovva job to land them.

Oh WOW ... you really know how to turn a little 'ole storm into a drama Julie :salute: Seriously, I'm glad you are all well. I guessed you probably lost your microwave broadband rather than just a power cut. Our internet is the same, comes from a repeater on the tallest mountain down here, fine for ...

Re: Are food manufactures dishonest ?

It's all down to EU food regulations. Producers have, by law to put use by and/or use within info on just about everything these days - even tinned stuff Yes OK, I understand that. My point though is why does one product have "use within one month of opening" when a virtually identical pr...

Just a small observation on the raspberry issue, if you are only planning to have one variety then I would recommend the Autumn fruiting ones. In my experience the summer ones have a fruiting period of about 6 weeks, but the "September" variety that I grow fruits from mid July until the wi...

...... but poor Julie seems to still be without power :( MW Yes, so it seems ... although the Irish news (RTE) are not reporting any customers without electricity any more, but it could be just individuals in outlying areas. It could also be lack of Internet connection too, whether telephone line o...

Are food manufactures dishonest ?

Last night as part of our "clear out the freezer(and start again)" campaign, we had ice cream for pud. I remembered from earlier in the week when I had to tidy the larder that we had some ice cream topping left over, so I had some of that too. Imagine my surprise (well maybe not) when I no...

Re: Old bones and Hydroponic Gardening

As far as I know I have never eaten food produced in this manner so as to taste I would be interested for any thoughts from folk who have. I can only comment on tomatoes but they tasted exactly the same as the ones growing next to them in the soil. I take you point about the minerals being present ...

Re: Growing Spring Onions indoors

I want window sills like MMM's in my next home, they are very deep. EVERY gardening book says"...or on a South facing/kitchen sill" mine are only 3'' (4cm) deep :( Might try Spring Oninons in a cold frame though to see if I can extend the seaso a bit 'cos we get through loads too. MW I ag...

Re: Old bones and Hydroponic Gardening

If you want to try hydroponics without the chemicals, you might have a look at aquaponics. Basically its a hydroponic set-up with a fish tank included. The fish waste is exactly the right mix of nutrients for the plants, and the plants clean and oxygenate the water for the fish. I used to have a si...

Re: Year round tomatoes ?

Where can I get seeds for those Microtoms? They look really good for windowsill growing and I don't really have space for a greenhouse, but the only place I've found online is out of stock. :-( Try here .... http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/seeds/pages/veg5aa.htm They are a bit expensive but once yo...
