Re: River Cottage - Hemp

I don't know if it's still the case but you used to have to have a license to grow hemp, because it's closely related to cannabis. I am pretty sure you do need a license, as you've stated. it's not closely related to cannabis, - it is cannabis! Cannabis Sativa is generally used for &qu...

Re: Downshifting

if you've got the opportunity to take back the time that is rightfully yours and use it in a manner that is better for yourself (and those you love) then DO IT! Currently I am in a position where I work more hours than I should, and don't have half the time to do the things I love to do - there are ...

Re: Flat Earthers

the problem I find when talking to people who are "deniers" is the general arrogance of humanity. Now, it's not just climate change (which will happen even if humans are not on the planet - it's the natural cycle of the system) - but the actual destruction and ruination of the natural syst...

Re: Composting Toilet question...

You want to keep urine separate from the solid waste as much as possible. Peeing onto a straw bale is a good idea Keep one bin in use the other fermenting and throw sawdust or wood ash down the hole after each visit mamos Hello Mamos, thanks for that - and agree need ot keep urine separate as possi...

Re: Rice weevils!

Apparently if you put the rice in the freezer for a few hours it kills them, but who wants to eat rice with dead weevils in it?? I don't think I'll be eating rice for a while now  and I'm not eating brambles either! :pukeright: found this on wikipedia ... People in rice-eating regions, for exa...

Composting Toilet question...

Hello, So - my dad has recently found himself an allotment near to where he lives (he moved up north a few years ago, and had to give up his allotment down south). The allotment committee (that word always seems to have too many letters!) - had started to build a composting toilet, my dad is now sec...

Re: Acorns as fuel

Got a rely very quickly from the oil pressing guy (see below), not sure I like what he's referring to with the 'choose another nut' but I think I can take that on the chin. So it might be possible with hexane extraction or a high oil acorn variety. "Hi Dave, If I have read the article right th...

Re: Can Anyone Identify these please

Hello swhaq I am afraid the pictures are not good enough quality for me to be able to give you an ID on these. They're good enough to be fairly confident in saying that it isn't a commonly-eaten species. As a forager, you wouldn't normally look twice at these: not on the menu. Indeed, but when I go...

Re: Geodesic Greenhouse

If you plan to cover it with poly the main issue (apart from waterproofing) is you`ll need to replace it at some point. If the design locks the poly between the triangles you`ll need to dismantle a good percentage of the structure to remove it. But, of you had the frame and the poly triangles cut a...

Re: Geodesic Greenhouse

High Mamos,

I was looking at this design

http://www.geo-dome.co.uk/article.asp?uname=hinge_panel

thinking that it could quite easily be done using plastic sheeting cut to triangles and wooden beams for the frame.

I think I might buy some balsa wood to see if I can construct a model.

Re: Geodesic Greenhouse

So, in answer to your question. Soon but only a smaller scale one but built in exactly the same way as the larger one mamos I'll look forward to seeing it. Out of interest, will you build the frame and then cover it with polythene, or will you build triangular sections with plastic triangular windo...
