That's brilliant - well done.

Where I work we can recycle some paper but only normal photocopier-type paper, no magazines, card or envelopes. I would love to know if any of the commercial recyclers would take that as it would cut down considerably on our waste. Especially the cardboard.

27. The old skirting board ripped out of the bathroom, and some old chicken wire buried in the undergrowth at the back of the garden has now been transformed with lots of nails and some enthusiasm into a new fence and gate to terrier proof the vegetable garden. Update :) The fence has remained terr...

101 Miculs and what you did with them

Hi A Micul is an object that MIght Come in Useful Later. Odd shaped bits of plastic, metal parts of deconstructed objects, fabric remanants and anything else that gets stored in the garage, loft or under the bed just in case they MIGHT COME IN USEFUL LATER. But do you ever actually use them for anyt...

If you were using them to line a path or flower bed, would it be possible to put a small fibre optic filament in each one (attached to a solar powered light source of course). I imagine it would look really pretty.

Last year I tried to sell an F&R machine in reasonable condition on Ebay. No reserve. It didn't even get one bid but then it wasn't a treadle one. It got donated to a charity shop in the end. I was getting rid of it because it only did a straight stitch and the tension was a bit beyond redemptio...

Well I theoretically had a go at the weekend (only theoretically of course - I wouldn't dream of doing anything illegal). In my mind I mixed up one teaspoon of washing up liquid with two teaspoons of sunflower oil in a litre of water in a spray bottle. The mixture would have foamed a lot so it's goo...

Hi Persimmons are different. I think they have a shiny orange skin whereas medlars are dark brown/green with a skin a bit like moleskin. The have the big flower bit at the bottom which is where the get the French name of dog's arse from. Bletting is the ripening process. You can't eat them until the...

I am glad to hear that there are some that come on instantly. I had to go back to a normal bulb in the hall. I found that by the time the light had come on I had already tripped over the cat and fallen down the stairs. Also in the bathroom. If you are in a rush it's no good waiting for a light to wa...

Please please please invest in a pair of heavy duty goggles. Tiles can shatter and fly everywhere. A pair of heavy duty gloves too but they do make things more fiddly. If you haven't already got a bolster then get one with a guard on the handle to give you some protection from the hammer! And book t...

Hi NZAmish No, you are not the only one. I used to do it (so I voted yes). I can't now cos I haven't got one any more (but I really miss it). When I did have one I used to light it on cooler summer evenings and then pop a saucepan on it as an excuse for lighting the stove in July. Seriously th...

Thanks for that, Flower. My chicken run is a mud bath at the moment and they haven't even been out there yet. So I will definitely need to get something to help them before they drown in the mud  I have put paper in the nest boxes but they just pull it out and spread it all around the floor wi...

You're welcome to come and say hello to my chooks - I'm only just down the road. But there really doesn't seem to be very much you have to do with them. I am very new to hens so maybe I should be doing more.

If you want to take a few photos of them for the book then you're welcome.
