Re: set up a rainwater collection system off my shed roof?

don't forget to fit a tap to the tank (if doesn't have one), and stand the tank on a sturdy base (bricks?), so you can get a bucket/watering can under. If the tank hasn't got a lid, it will pay to cobble one together to keep the sun/leaves off. Good luck

Re: "diabetic" ice cream

My Jackie is type one (insulin dependent), and has been for 50yrs. She has learn't to ignore the sugar/sweetener info, and just be sensible about her intake of "diabetic" food-stuffs. I find that most "diabetic" stuff tastes sweeter than the ordinary stuff (and a bloody sight mor...

Re: "GOUT"

It's an old-wifes tale that gout is caused by a rich diet. ( I should know, 'cos my wife is quite young!!). Apparently, gout can affect any joint in your body apart from the elbow...... don't know why. Anyway Russ, i know it's ruddy painful 'cos i've had it across the knuckles on my right-hand. I di...

Re: WATER MINE (not yours?)

Sorry, but i'm totally confused ( and i've been drilling bore-holes for a few years)..... there's no such thing as "soft granite". All aquafer water is "mined", and sometimes it can be "artesian", where-by it hits a pocket of impervious rock, creating a build-up of pres...

Re: Garlic is wonderful!

I love garlic !! Don't know too much about it, but i do know that if you bury some cloves among the roots of rose-trees, this will discourage aphids from settling on the plant.

Re: Utilisation of yard tips...

Hi Chris, if you are S.E. facing, then your patch will be in full sun for most of the day. It maybe good to bear that in mind when choosing plants. With that in mind you might want to think about rigging up a water butt as you'll probably find that your plants will require plenty of water. Most vege...
