It does for me as I do it all the time. The last "little shower" we had refilled one of my 1000 litre tanks that I emptied irrigating my tunnels the day before.

That looks like a Japanese Quince (Chaenomeles Japonica).
I have one and the fruit changes colour in late autumn to a bright yellow, and has orange flowers in late winter.
It also has thorns, and I have never come across an apple tree with thorns.
