Re: Improving your Ish in 2010

Dried fruit! I've never bothered before but I had a go this autumn with apples. They dried really well above the CH boiler - the CH boiler uses wood pellets and it's a big big thing in a big cellar so there is plenty of space and a woody flavoured air circulation. They were delicious. But I've alrea...

Re: Act Now! Herbal Medicine to be cut out of law in the UK.

Yet again they want to take one of our choices away... Not the best of newspapers but the Daily Mail have picked up on this potential ban so at least word is starting to get out there about this. The Daily Mail? The same paper that supports Fox Hunting? That supported Clause 28? It's funny what peo...

Re: Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

99% of scientists believe we are responsible but only 30% is of the public (media influence??). ----------- well, maybe not quite those figures but, by and large, yup, that's exactly it. people want to believe they havent caused it, the media don't want to have the world change in any significant wa...

Re: Oh dear the septic tank has gone bang for xmas!

Possum,

That's bad news. And just before Xmas.

Hope it's repaired soon - and that it doesnt cost too much.

All I can suggest in the meantime is a spade and a nice bit of woodland.....

Re: country at a standstill "why"

Unfortunately it costs several hundred pounds or euros to have your tyres switched over, and you've got to do it twice a year, so when you live somewhere where it is doesn't snow regularly it's rather a huge expense for something that may never happen. You have to drive slower on winter tyres as we...

Re: country at a standstill "why"

We do up here Russ, the roads are rarely impassable - not for long anyway. There was an article on the BBC News site a couple of days ago. The guy in charge of keeping the Highlands roads clear was being interviewed and he said that up here it's an easy decision to make - we get snow so we need the...

Re: country at a standstill "why"

We've had tons of snow. And bitter temperatures. But no roads are closed. No abandoned vehicles. Everyone still gets up and goes to work/school. I'm sure it's right that money makes a difference but I think there might be other things as well.... 1 Winter tyres are compulsory. And that must help a l...
