Re: What do your grandchildren call you?

I am a long way off ever having to worry about this one, thank goodness! But I have a Nanna (great grandma), Grandma Chrys, Grandma Sam (AKA Grandmère... And she isn't called Sam, that was the name of a dog she used to have... before I was born!), Grandpa (sometimes Grandpa Mike), Grandpa Beard, Gra...

Ha! I'm the opposite, I find videos too confusing, and prefer diagrams/photos I can work through at my own pace =o)

Re: can anyone recommend me a good beginners book for knitting?

I'm just putting the first tutorials on my blog, if you're interested. I do recommend internet sources just 'cos they're free, to be honest!

My grandparents always seemed to name any animal-shaped object in sight when I was young - I just thought they were a bit funny and tried to remember the names to humour them!

Re: can anyone recommend me a good beginners book for knitting?

I taught myself on line too - learn2knit.co.uk has all the basics. I just did a few practice squares then searched "easy knit scarf pattern", picked one and sort of got on with it! A year and a half later and I'm undaunted by any technique, in English, French or Spanish! I would recommend ...

My New Blog

I've just started a new blog, based on knitting, and as I know so many of you are knitters, you might be interested in taking a look. You can find it at http://pickup2sticks.wordpress.com/ It's a bit bare at the moment, but I plan to add tutorials as well. Maybe if anyone else has a blog - I'm think...

If you can't say something nice...

Hi everyone, In the past few months I've noticed a few uncomfortable situations on the board, and, of course, this is inevitable in any sort of forum. I use ish despite the fact I'm probably the least self-sufficient around here because I have a few values in common with a majority of members on the...

Re: Help needed with life - long post

:(

I don't know what to suggest, apart from remember that it won't go on forever. My sister had similar issues at school a few years ago, and is now a talented hairdresser with a flat and a good man. You and she are doing the right thing, but it is still a pretty crap situation for now :hugish:

Re: Laptop without the Battery

I have a lower-end Vaio. I've never really liked laptops, but I tend to travel fairly regularly, so it really is the only solution (being internet AND Sims-less is not something I'm willing to entertain!). Plus it doubles up as a portable DVD player, and has fairly decent speakers. When I'm at least...

Re: which tea?

My morning tea of choice is Yorkshire - but only when I have some lactose-free milk, otherwise Tetley (which I find a little less strong) with my soya. In the afternoons, I'm a bit more adventurous: Twining's Assam or bergamot; Ile de Maurice vanilla; Gunpowder Brand green tea; White tea; Chai (Indi...

Re: Annoying other half

Craig, I'll just say this, been there, done that. I wanted to farm, he wanted to keep up to the Joneses. I've been 10 years without him now, found a wonderful guy who loves to garden, loves animals and takes excellent care of me. I really think you should take some "personal time" to exam...

Re: Impetigo - any natural cures?

When I had it, I was given an AB lotion, which helped. It was on my face, and I covered it (loosely) at night and changed my pillowcases every morning, to keep it as germ-free as possible. But the thing I really found helped was a warm salt water soak as often as possible during the day. I did hear ...
