Re: Friends coming to you on their 'holidays'

We never had anyone come from the city to visit us! I had no friends in the city at all, only co-workers. My co-workers thought even less of me than I did of them---they were a lazy, gossipy, and mercilessly conniving lot, who thought I was completely bonkers for quitting five years from early retir...

We have loads this year. That said the only thing we find them palatable in (even dead ripe) is the chicken run,...

We had a Fish Fry, including; Striper, White Bass, and Crappie--all fried up in my Sweeties' breading recipe Fries (Chips?!) A large green salad with home-made Buttermilk Dressing and slivered a...

Re: Where to go?

Thanks everyone for your stories, perpectives, and replies. I'm going to quit whining about it now and schedule (a) a visit with my doctor---while he's still my doctor, and (b) a little vacation road trip. DH is getting worried about me--I had a full-out panic attack yesterday. It's amazing how torq...

[quote="contadina" With the greatest of respect, and I really mean this,I think that's the saddest and least viable reason to emigrate.I'd still be living abroad were my body not falling apart(Partner and kids Italian citizens) and to be honest,in my experience, the most miserable expats ar...

[quote="The Riff-Raff Element.] Your politics are your own affair, and I'm not looking for an argument either, but, objectively, you must remember that there are very few places in the world that would offer you a similar level of personal freedom coupled with a lack of authoritarian interferen...

Re: Where to go?

We chose southern Italy for a more relaxed way of life and because self-sufficiency is the norm. There are no large farms near us, just families tending their small plots of land to provide for their families and sell any surplus. Like others have warned; where ever you choose, do it because you wa...

Where to go?

If you and your family were seriously thinking of leaving your country----permanently----where would you go and why?

Re: Hello from france

Riff-raff element, nice to know there are other people in france using this site. Any more of us? Demi - I haven't found rabbit meat to be a strong flavour but cooking it in red wine does add a certain something. Try it in cider instead or just in stock with lots of vegetables. And younger ones wil...

He eats the bushes, you eat him. There's a symmetry there. But you'll be eating venison burgers till next July if he's that big  Nahhh, when we get him my Sweetie will have half of him made into Spice Stix. Between himself and DD they will go down in nothing flat. Not to mention they make wond...

Deer!

Up until last night I had a couple of lovely Hazelnut bushes down at our pond. They had finally started producing nuts this year, and we eagerly gathered up our little harvest yesterday afternoon. We've had a nine point buck hanging around here lately, and some time last night I guess he decided to ...

Re: I love a bargain, what did you buy today??

It wasn't today, but eariler this year I bought two half-finished home-sewn sundresses for $1.50. I brought them home, ripped them apart, and made a really nice book bag (with "secret" pockets and everything!), and a stuffed toy (Pointy Kitty from Wee Wonderfuls), both for DD, out of them....

Re: Fight obesity like tobacco

And parents of obese children should be targeted for advice on healthy eating, support and even phycological treatment to try to overcome the reasons for over eating. This is a public health issue and things should be in place to help overweight families. EDIT: The safety or otherwise of cannabis i...

I've got 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18-23, 25, 27, 30, 31, 33, 35, 38, 39, and 32--as long as I can use games rather than "magic" and telling stories. The rest of them, for me at least, is just rubbish...in fact the architecture one is usless to me also, but I had to study some ...
