Hi,
I made beetroot and apple chutney a couple of years ago and it was nice, and a LOVELY colour. I like the sound of that recipe with ginger in.

Re: Hen ate dead shrew
Oh good, glad it's normal. They'll probably be treated by the cat again, she's new and seems to be quite the huntress!

Hen ate dead shrew
Hi, My hen just ate a dead shrew (quite a big one) that my cat had left in the garden. She ran around with it very pleased with herself then finally downed it in one go! Is this a common thing to happen? I suppose there'll be a lot of protien in it but it looked quite horrible!!

Re: Veggie Burgers
These sound lovely. Can I ask.... with the veggie stock do you mix with water and if so how much - I guess you don't want the mixture too runny? I might try these and also have a glut of courgettes to use!

Re: 10 year old fig wine??
Haha! Didn't realise we had something so desirable! Don't know why it's lasted so long... I'll let you know what it's like when we finally open and try it  It has a plastic top so can't check the cork. We also have a bottle of rumtopf we made about 6 summers ago and strained and tried recently...

Re: Wanted: Wheelbarrow (Cambridgeshire)
Hi Witchy, We have a whellbarrow you can have if you'd like. It's fairly basic with a solid wheel rather than with a tyre, and I think is slightly smaller than a standard wheelbarrow. We live near to St Ives, Cambs.

10 year old fig wine??
We have a bottle of fig wine which my OH made 10 years ago and wondered whether to open it up and try it. Apparently it tasted good 10 years ago... Has anyone tried fruit wine after this long and was it ok?
Thanks, Jo

blood in egg white
Hello, We have 3 chickens and they've laid brilliantly since we got them 3 months ago. Last week one of the eggs had a blob (about large pea size) of blood within the egg white of an egg. I've found on the net about blood spots in eggs being normal - but it sounded as though they are usually in the ...

Re: Hello from Shropshire!!
Hello, I've just joined the site and too have a lot of plums to do things with! We're going to try plum wine and have hunted out the demi-johns which have been moving house with us for the last 10 years since they were last used. I'll also try some plum jam and we have stewed and frozen lots already...

Hello from Cambs
Hello, I've just joined after using this site quite a bit over the last couple of years for advice and ideas. I live with my partner and 2 children, and do a little bit towards self-sufficiency but dream of much more.... We have had chickens for 3 months and think they're great. We grow some fruit &...
