Re: Parsnips

parsnips are one of the few seeds that won't keep 'til the following year once opened.

chest freezer

have had one sitting under my hangar for two years! Any ideas for using it for something useful?

Hubby seems to remember that one can be used to make super-speedy compost but can't remember the details. Obviously his three compost bins aren't enough to satisfy his compost needs!

Something special for Yule

What are you having/usually have/have had for Yule lunch/dinner? I want to make something different this year and am looking for inspiration .... meat free only please. I'm OK for side dishes (though always open to new ideas ) ... but want something for main dish and for starters. Will have visitors...

Parsnips

I've just found some parsnips seeds (open packet) that somebody gave me earlier in the year and I forgot all about. Think it's worth sowing them? I've never sown parsnips this late. They won't save 'til next year, so it's either sow 'em or chuck 'em. If it's worth sowing them shall I put them in the...

Strawberry leaf spot

I've got leaf spot on my outdoor strawbs :( I've read conflicting things about whether to destroy the plants or not. Once they are infected, with it come back year after year? Although they will still fruit next year, am I better off replacing the whole lot? I've got some runners taking root in pots...

Re: Converting dry weight to canned weight

Rose Elliott gives a conversion in one of her books, I'll dig it out.

When I cook up big batches of dried pulses, I always freeze them in portions equal to two cans in case I'm following a recipe, though more usually I make it up as I go along!

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once

I will read a book again if I've really enjoyed it ... but there are just so many unread books to enjoy! So I try not to read them more than once, maybe twice. BUT .... I've read the Hobbit many times, and the Lord of the Rings even more .. it's my favourite book ever. Interesting that so many of us...

We've got the box set too ... we love watching it on cold winter evenings, all snuggly and warm - preferably with a large glass of something

Re: Pizza - getting the right flavour?

I add linseeds to my pizza base ... and a tablespoon of polenta for extra crunch. I make a marino sauce for my base .... finely chopped onion and garlic sauteed, add a can of tomaotes, crushed and some dried basil and oregano (my Italian friend said the Italians would never dream of adding TWO herbs...

Re: Bonekickers

I agree ... it was bloody awful! I could go with a weak storyline if I cared about the characters. Or a crummy script would be bearable if the effects were magnificent, or it was full of twists and turns. Most disappointing. At the end of it, my partner said "it it what you expected? Cos it was...

Re: Free range in France?

As I don't support the meat industry I'm hardly likely to give information which will increase it sales am I?! No I don't eat diary - if you're looking for information on a dairy-free lifestyle I'd be happy to help, as would the other vegans on this forum. But I see you've got the answer you wanted ...

Re: Free range in France?

Whatever spin you try and put on it, if one eats fish or rabbit, one is not following a vegetarian diet. So why say you are? There aren't "shades" of vegetarianism, or "shades" of veganism. One is either a vegetarian or one is not. On is either a vegan or one is not. It's dead si...

If so how do you re-constitute them?

You don't.... they don't dry out to an absolute crisp, they are ready to eat from the dehyrator. They're not keepers, you make 'em and eat 'em.
