I'm thinking of growing my own barley this season, then malting it and turning it into beer! Anyone grown barley, finding it even difficult to find seed that isn't just for farmers.

As minnesota says one plant is enough, it was plenty on my allotment. but yep took 2 years. Where do you live? Up in Scotland and further north in Ireland would be too far north really,there is a reason most hops are still grown in kent/

Many recipes are meant as a guide, I know when I write them its with the hope that people adapt them. Older recipes certainly have too much sugar in them you'd think they were sponsered by tate and lyle or something.

You could try putting it into a secondary before bottling it, ie - in a demijohn for a week or so then bottling it.
