Re: What festival are you going to this year?

Registered for Glastonbury again but didn't get tickets . Might go to a festival in Germany instead and visit Berlin on the way, it's supposed to be amazing in the summer.

Re: Supermarket Expansion

There are still plenty of people making the effort to grow their own and supply organic veg and meat at markets but surely they must struggle to compete. Really there is no comparison as home grown vegetables are far better than the cold and tasteless Rubbish you find at the supermarket. I just wish...

I can't imagine going through such a traumatic experience and loosing family and friends and everything you know. I need to remember how lucky I am.

Re: clearing garden

I used to have a back garden full of brambles and really the most effective way is to get as much of the root up as possible.

Re: Grow anything remotely edible when I have no garden?

A friend of mine grew aubergines and courgettes in her living room. The whole flat was like a vegetable patch! there is no stopping you if homegrown veg is what you want. It's rubbish not having a garden though. Student property is too expensive.

Re: Tactfuly tell a friend something?

I don't think there's a nice way of telling her. Lets hope she never comes across this forum. I once made some bread using some flour that had been sat next to a box of washing powder in the kitchen only for a few weeks. The bread was inedible because it tasted like surf. Yuk

Re: Does anyone grow olives?

I have an olive tree, have had it for years and no fruit. To be honest i'd forgotten that it was an olive tree up until now and had accepted that it will never produce anything. I'm going to work on this. There's no excuse the weather has been amazing lately, hotter than spain apparently.

Re: what livestock do you keep?

Horse - she definitely does not help sustainablity as she is ancient and does nothing but eat. Chickens. Have had pigs and sheep (both pets in the end as I'm too much of a wimp to do anything else about them - the sheep were too pretty and the pigs hilarious). So really only the lovely chickens and ...

Re: Changing the clocks would reduce carbon emmisions

Interesting thread, but at the risk of sounding absolutely stupid, surely the nights and mornings are darker anyway in winter so we automatically use more electricity regardless of where our clocks are????

Re: petrol prices etc

Programme on R4 about the fuel prices on now Very interesting. Especially the hike in public transport prices in certain cities (not everywhere), which is already sky high in Bristol where I live. I live about 1/2 a mile from the city centre, usually I walk or cycle, but when I broke my foot I had t...
