Re: what if anything will grow in partial shade
Hi,
Blackberries and similar should be OK in the shade...they grow ANYWHERE!
You can also grow a lot more leafy veg than you thought...spinach, leuttice etc.
Also, don't forget that the winter cropping stuff will be around when the leaves drop...so purple sprouting (I would have thought), roots etc will get more light during the october - may months.
Good luck! I think any plot is better than no plot - can you upgrade once another comes available?

Yes hopefully I'll get a better one at some point.....but I'll make the most of this one first......thanks for the advice

Raspberries will take some shade too,but proximity to the hedge is more likely to lead to drought and fertility probs,so loads of compost/FYM/mushcomp/whatever you've got will help a lot. (and trim the hedge!!) Anyhow, congrats and best wishes.

Congratulations on your new allotment. I hope you enjoy it.
I went to Garden Organic last year and they were growing all sorts of currants in a woodland garden. Alpine strawberries also seem to grow anywhere.

Yup can only agree with what others have said, leeks, blackberries and onions all do well, as do garlic bulbs :) Congrats on your allotment too!

i think most things do ok in partial sun, some prefer more but get by
avoid the sun lovers! - tomatoes, chiilies etc. anything that would prefer to be in a greenhouse!
