I've been looking up on the net lately on permaculture and forest gardening. I am so excited about the idea of transforming my garden this way. I've recently bought some books and have ordered some more. I was just wondering if anyone else is using either or both of these systems in their gardens, and if so do you have any photos or hints and tips for me to get started, please?

do you subscribe to the excellent Permaculture Magazine? And have you got the latest Martin Crawford book on Forest Gardening? Both recommended.

Also worth checking out the Plants for a Future website.

I've got the permaculture magazine website on favourites, but haven't subscribed to the mag itself, and the book you mention is one of the books I'm waiting for in the post. :-)

Cool! It's worth supporting/subscribing to the magazine either digitally or with a hard copy. I think you will love that book.

Can I ask which books you have already bought and which ones you would say were good (ie the ones you werent disappointed with) please? I am also interested in permaculture, but all I can find on the net is what seems almost like a religion! Or paid for courses that I cant afford to go on.

All the books mentioned in this thread are very good but are geared towards Forest Gardening so if that's what you are looking to do then i recommend them especially the Martin Crawford one. They are all not religion like. But if you are looking for a simple primer on permaculture itself then permaculture in a nutshell may be a book that you'll like.

Buying the magazine is a very good idea - not all articles will be to your liking i expect but there is always good inspiration in there and more than makes up for it with other articles.

The seminal texts are by Edible Forest Gardens by Jacks and Toensmeier - but at ~£100 the pair look them up at the library first - although they're worth every penny IMHO.
