If you are interested, Basil Caplan has a very good chapter on weeds in his book the Complete Manual of Organic Gardening, if you really want to know, I could try to scan it in and send you the info. Have you tried the rabbits on japanese knotweed, if it is anything like here, there is acres of the stuff all round the place

I have. They like it well enough. They will eat all of the young growth, but only strip the leaves from mature canes. In general with the wabbits I find they prefer a selection of foods,,or a juc if you preferdiggernotdreamer wrote:Have you tried the rabbits on japanese knotweed, if it is anything like here, there is acres of the stuff all round the place
In dealing with JKW in general I have succesfully erradicated it with repeated cutting drying and composting, but you have to be constant and thorough
Whats the best way to run out of something? treat it as an inexhaustable supply

There is a very good permaculture dvd called 'Soils' by Geoff Lawton, that's a good place to start. I'm sure if you Google it you should find info too.
Just to be sure ;) I just typed in weeds as dynamic accumulators and loads of stuff came up. Happy reading.

Chickens like chickweed - usually helps as a motive for weeding.

The weeds are fighting again ground too dry . We have just had a couple of hours of torrential rain so with the ground softened it should be easier on Sunday.

Have you considered Selective weeding?
I select for Scarlet Pimpernel and Pansies, because they are purdy, and if the SP flowers are open I know it's not raining
