Yet again I've put seeds in fibre pots and before they've germinated, the pots have started to go mouldy. How can I stop it from happening?
I gave the windows a good clean and finished off with a bleach wipe before putting the pots on.

I've not used fibre pots for years - we generally make them out of newspaper or just use the little pots we occasionally get seedlings from elsewhere in.
But I have to confess it hadn't occurred to me that their going mouldy was a problem. I'm fairly certain mine always did. We just planted them anyway. They're constantly damp so the chances of them not going mouldy is slim, isn't it?

The reason we stopped using them, apart from the price, was because they never seemed to rot properly, so the plants got constricted roots.

Exactly why a lot of allotment holders here use newspaper pots and toilet rolls to set things off.

How do you make a pot out of newspaper?

There are fancy gadgets you can buy, but I tear strips of paper (one-third of a sheet) and wrap them round a little pot, tucking the paper over the end as if I was wrapping up glassware for packing in a box. At the end I fold the top edge down to hold it together. I then slide the pot out, which isn't always as easy as it sounds.
