I think the problem with peel is mostly with the bought stuff, if it's not organic... Lots of pesticides on there.

I use very little citrus fruit, but would probably eat/drink more if I could grow it myself! I've had a grapefruit sitting in my fruit bowl for almost a month... Only buy them when they are cheap these days, and then it's such a luxury item that I postpone eating it ("leave it for a special occasion") until it's too late...

Fortunately they are, ina. They come with my weekly organic veg box.

We have a friend about 4 hours north of us who has a successful home jam and preserve business and is now breaking into the high end, exclusive brand cuisine market. Unfortunately she tells me that marmalades don't sell so she doesn't make them anymore.

Weedo,
They are saying in the UK that the sales of marmalade are falling. Something to do with it's only the older people who have always had toast and marmalade for breakfast that buy it. The youth market is all into food on the go and healthy stuff or something.

I was just about to say that's a shame, I love marmalade, then realised I probably now fit into that "older people" bracket. :(

I have to beat them off with a stick for my marmalade here, when I make a batch, it is sold straight away, but I guess there is an ageing population here, but who doesn't love a slice of toast at any time of the day with some really good very chunky marmalade and loads of butter. Gluts, I am drowning in flowering brassica shoots

I've just looked in the deep freezer and realised that I have a lot of vegetables from last season that need eating up before the new crops start to come in this year (should be next month that). There's beans of various sorts, peas, frozen leeks that could be a year old and lots of a marrow recipe that freezes well.
