New version of free-economy.org now launched

If you know of a way to help save our planet, even just a small part of it put it here. Also if you want to ask how to help, or even if you want to promote your environmental organisation. All goes here.

New version of free-economy.org now launched

Post: # 262728Post Scotness »

Hi guys I've now got the new version of the free-economy site launched

http://www.free-economy.org

- there'll be various bugs etc that will probably need ironing out - but most of the new features are all there. These include accounts and saved searches - and the ability to define projects.

So for instance if you wanted to start a chook yard for free or a garden you would list all the things you need in one group and can plan the thing in a batch.

The benefits to individuals and the environment are pretty obvious - and I hope it flows through to society as well - and companies too - I think they have a major part to play in our transition to a greener and happier world.

Anyway please check it out - I'm keen for some feedback - I appreciate everyone's time who looked at the earlier versions too

Thanks,
Scot

I had a quick look (very quick, if I'm honest) and couldn't find a way to get anything sensible on the location. Matching town names doesn't work well in a sparsely populated area. Could you add in some geographical software to allow for searches "within x miles of..."? I've seen lists of distances between postcodes that would do this for the UK, but I'm not sure if that could be done for the whole world. Maybe you already have something like this and I just didn't find it.

Hi Rachel - yes the original idea was to have something like that - but I thought not everyone would know their longitude and latitude - and we couldn't' find a list for enough towns in the world to make it worthwhile. However it's still a good idea and I think we need to bring in some kind of combination or choice between what we've got and what you're mentioning. Thanks for the feedback - I'm going to check out your blog now :-)

Hey guys just letting you know the site is going really well and we've just launched an Android App as well

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... nomy&hl=en

We were even lucky enough to get a little bit of local press

http://www.thechronicle.com.au/news/too ... o/2182056/

Hopefully more to come - it's definitely picking up momentum - and I truly believe it's a sustainable future or bust!!

Just letting everyone know the site and the app are back up - they've been down for a while due to a few technical difficulties (okay me not getting emails etc!!) - but all back up and running now :-)

The Free Economy - web interface
The Free Economy Android App

Give it ago - let's build a sustainable future :-)
