I may need to pick your brains about the polytunnel. I only have a tiny bed in the communal polytunnel - I think it's roughly 5ft by 2ft but there is a lot of space left in the polytunnel because most of our members haven't been interested in an indoor bed, and we just build them 'to order'; so I suspect our rule of not having additional sacks/pots may get waivered as at the moment half the polytunnel isn't being used. At the moment I'm just growing salad and tomatoes in it, but I want it to be productive in the autumn / winter too. I find the timings really tricky to work out - if I planted carrots in the polytunnel after my tomatoes and salads have finished, would they grow do you think?

I've not quite got my head round it yet, CT, Odsox is your man for that. I've got a book called Four Seasons Harvest - a US book, but similar frost zone but they don't such low light levels. I'm going to re-read that to see what we can do over winter.

We have had some fairly windy weather just lately and I found a quite a few windfall apples when I went to mow yesterday. We had them for pud tonight cooked in honey with a dollop of yoghurt, very nice it was too.

I've not quite got my head round it yet, CT, Odsox is your man for that.

The Amsterdam Forcing carrots I had given up on two months ago and planted sprouts in their place have, um, decided to show. This should be interesting.

A full trolley of onions from the plot today, all now drying on temporary shelves in the woodshed (the weather is too showery to rely on them drying on the surface of the beds - and I want that space for the new grapevines). The smell of onions at the bottom of the garden is overpowering!

Started eating our sweetcorn this weekend, swamped with cucumber although the gherkins are only just starting to produce. Tomatoes are well behind only some yellow ones ready. Don't think we will get any melons this year.

A few blackberries today. They're starting to take over from the loganberries which have just about come to an end.

Broad beans though these are nearly finished but plenty in freezer, lettuce, salad leaves, beetroot, khol rabi, patty pan squash, marrows, a few courgettes and the runner beans are just starting.

Our first broad bean. I don't know what took it so long, but it's only just producing pods. We only have the one plant as the eldest planted it at school.

Lots of toms, blackberries, spinach. Planting and potting on more than I'm harvesting.
