We had 15ish plants and not a single cob, the plants did not grow to more than a foot high. Like wabbit just said, we will be planting something more productive next year.

I didn't bother this year.

Have grown it for the past 3 years and rarely get a decent crop. Just don't know what I am doing wrong......have tried the 3 sisters idea and still nothing..... :(

I planted sweetcorn in 4 different places this year. 3 were rubbish as per usual but 1 area was growing brilliantly, large plants with several cobs on each, I was very excited. Took sompe visitors round the garden, stopped where my wonderfully growing sweetcorn were and..............they'd gone! :dontknow: I just stared for ages, looking at the place where 20 odd plants had once been which had now completely disappeared apart from about 2 inches of stalk! I thought I'd been vandalised until Hubby pointed out they had been gnawed and was probably a ragodan, several of which he'd seen close by. Bu****s!

OMG! I was pond watching as we have a family of them here at the moment and the babies are cute - and I saw one of the adults appear with a maize cob which he/she proceeded to munch on! Thankfully they haven't discovered my veg patch which is fenced in but they would have no problem pushing/digging their way in under the wire - they do this around our perimeter fence and my husband is continually trying to barricade them out - to no avail.

Never thought about them as pests after sweetcorn.

Theyre real problems unfortunately M3 and you should get rid of them. They will undermine your pond and make the banks collapse. Your local Marie would send someone out with traps, sad but necessary Im afraid :(

No they don't nest here and only come by in the summer. The muskrats were the real problem burrowing/nesting under the stand of alder trees making it really hollow underneath and one day is gonna come crashing down across the lake :? but they haven't been seen this year. The coypus disappear as soon as the pond fills up again in the autumn and go and live in the ditches or up the stream I guess. All they want to do is come and swim in here and mow our grass for us.

I refuse to let them be drowned (apparently that can take up to 15 minutes so it's a slow death for them :pukeright: ), if they need to be killed my hubby can shoot them and kill them decently!
