indoor chilli peppers

I have picked up some chilli seeds (prairie Fire)on special offer from the garden centre and wondering as they are a windowsill pepper if I could germinate and grow them over winter although it says sow march to april? Has anyone tried this?

(these would be in an east or west facing window in Lincolnshire before they go to France in April)

I'd wait until spring, and then try and over-winter them next year. Daylight length over winter is likely to be a problem, unless you make a lightbox for them.

I thought light would be the problem and i am not keen on investing in lighting but i'm sooo impatient!

I've tried it. Difficult/near impossible to get them to germinate and I found that the compost goes mouldy if the humidity is too high.

I would wait until Feb/March to plant them.

We have an old saucepan for this, half fill the pan with earth, mix in the seeds from last year, cling film over th top and leave in the windowsill, works for us.
