Purple flower garden

Pretty flowers ......

.... of my this year's potatoes. These are Mayan Gold, which are new to me. Below is the potato thicket, had I known they were going to be so rampant, I would have planted them further apart instead of my usual 18" each way.

Purple and mauve flowers on another new plant, these are Shiraz peas and the pods are deep purple too, apparently.

And, just to show that I DO grow a few non-edible plants ......

Erm, lilac is edible. You can make loads of things, syrup, jelly, wine and scones were just a few options.

I don't know what they taste like but the picture I saw of lilac cupcakes looked very pretty.

No, only you could do something like that, us mere mortals just appreciate the flowers for what they are.

Update: The Shiraz peas do indeed have deep purple pods, I will post a pic when they get big enough.

At the risk of being pedantic (who me?) you merely said it was non-edible, not that an old sourpuss wouldn't eat it.

Of course you're right, I maybe should also have pointed out that I grow vast quantities of grass, which according to Barbara Moore (remember her?) is not only edible, but good for you .... but it doesn't have purple flowers.

I had to look her up but I think a good maxim is to avoid nutritional advice from someone who starved to death.

Grass is only edible in the form of beef etc (apologies to any vegetarians etc).

Oh dear, showing my age then. She was always in the news back in the 60's, she reckoned she was going to live forever on grass, water and fresh air.
I agree about the beef though and I would definitely add lamb to the list.
