Sweetcorn

Post: # 290932Post dave45 »

How long are sweetcorn seeds viable for?

I know they are all F1 and don't breed true, but I've done it before and it sort of worked OK... but I have some saved seeds from 2016....

Not all sweetcorn is F1, I grow Little Bantam which is an open pollinated heritage variety which is far less sweet than the modern varieties.
The seed lasts at least 3 years, but it's dead easy to do a germination test for yourself. Put 10 seeds on a damp tissue in a sealed container in your airing cupboard, and see what percentage germinate.
