I had a poor year last year with Leeks. I grew the seedlings outside and it was very late before they were large enough to transplant into their final positions. Determined not to make the same mistake again I made a good start this year and planted them in deep trays. They have grown on very well in the greenhouse and some are now 12 inches tall with the rest not far behind. Someone told me the other day "do not plant them out too early". Will it be OK to start planting them out now? (location North Yorkshire) I could do with some room in my geenhouse to get some tomatoes in.
Thanks

Leeks are pretty tough but its still worth hardening them off before transplanting outside. I would put them out in a sheltered spot for a few hours each day - lenghtening the time until after a week they can be left out all the time. After 3/4 days of being out 24 hours, then transpant htem into their permanent positions.
The longer they are in the ground, the bigger they will get for the winter.
