Poorly Goats slowing down

Post: # 283660Post vancheese »

Hi people

I've a problem with my flock of goats. The offspring of my two breeding goats seems to be doing fine and then they start to slow down, they stop eating, being active and then eventually die from a collapse of the nervous system(Vet's diagnosis). I feed them oats, barley, wheat and Hay. They also regularly free range graze.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what might be happening or anything I can try to prevent this?

Andy

Andy.We kept goats for years, here's a few ideas.

1)What are they grazing near? Laburnum?Laurel?Ragwort? The adults might be strong enough to get over any minor toxin.
2)Do they have mineral licks? They need them especially as youngsters

3)How old are you weaning them at?

If this keeps happening, and you've checked the above,I'd get the vet to PM one. Best Wishes.
