Can I eat a chicken dead from unknown cause?

Our neighbours gave me a chicken of theirs which died yesterday. Can I make it into soup, or is that unsafe?

If you don't know how it died then it is unsafe.

The same could apply to Road Kill which the French love. Was it killed because it was too slow through illness or just bad luck !

I think it had been found dead of unknown causes, not killed or run over.
