Hoorah, omletes are on 2steps.
Don't know if you saw the good life last night but you sort of remind me of that, its the one where they have a fried egg for a 'posh' dinner at the end. - it was more the exicitment of waiting for the eggs that reminded me though. I wonder if I can keep chickens in my new place.....

I remember having chickens when i was a child. The first egg that was produced, was ceremoniously escorted up to the kitchen, where it was cooked and cut into 4 pieces so we could all have a taste!!
We inherited some chickens from a chicken factory, and one lived to the grand old age of 10!!
The vet couldn't believe it when we told him....

Our chooks are pumping 'em out too - it is exciting when they start! Congraulations 2-steps!

yummy!! Eggsellent!!
There is nothing to beat eggs (no pun intended) from your own chooks (or ducks) - we only have one hen laying at the moment, but then we do have an abundance of cockerels - all fattening up nicely at the moment! The other hens are not interested at the moment, two of them are too young anyway - will be after Christmas before they are laying I reckon.
We've had to search high and low for some non GM food here - I wanted organic but that seems to be far too much to ask

I had to buy some 'free range' eggs from the supermarket whilst in England and they were such a horrible colour - pinky beige. Can't wait to eat my own eggs again. I did miss my little horrors - more than the cats (don't tell the cats!). I have just spent an enjoyable morning mucking out the chicken shed and raking up leaves from their run - they love to 'help' me with these chores!

Was that the colour of the shells or the yolks? Must admit, that I have a bit of a problem with green eggs - although I know that's only the breed and doesn't influence the taste!Millymollymandy wrote:I had to buy some 'free range' eggs from the supermarket whilst in England and they were such a horrible colour - pinky beige.
I get local free range eggs, and they are fine. But next year, I'll definitely get my own...
